Ultima Fiction for Ultima Online Petition

[ UO Fiction Message Board ] [ Current UO Fiction Poll ]

Udpate! I received an email from Calandryll (24-09-1999):

Hail Diego:
Ultima fiction in UO is a bit tricky, mostly because UO takes place beforemost of the Ultima games. We do have some history and characters of course, including the virtues, the cities, and other things from the Ultima Games.
We do have IGMs and Seers running small quests right now at various times on the shards. We also plan on greatly expanding our seer program to allow even more fiction and events in the future.

My comments regarding this, nothing has changed.  They are almost too silent regarding the entire matter, and we will not see any form of Ultima fiction in UO.
Also, the Ultima history timeline argument is pathethic, all Ultimas have had their discrepancies in their location in the histroy of Ultima.

Update: I hadn't noticed the lack of links to Ultima web references. Here, a couple of good ones:  Please let me know if you have more!
Check out the Ultima Encyclopedia:

Also the Ultima resource Library:

Update!: I just received an "acknowledgement" email from Lord British Himself! He also posted on the EoT message board supporting our cause. Read the short note at the bottom of this page.
More News: Rainman from UO Stratics has visited our page and gave support for our cause.  Read the details on the bottom of this page.

Hail and well met!
My name is Phantom Lord, and I am an avid fan of the Ultima Series and Ultima Online. I've been following the Ultima series since I first played Ultima III on an Atari 800XL computer, and since then I've played most of the Ultima games including Akalabeth the pre-Ultima adventure starring Lord British, I have also finished many of them.  These games were played on different platforms including the Atari, Apple II, Commodore 64 and IBM PC Compatibles.  My personal favorite game is Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny.
I've been following the Ultima Online project since I first noticed references to it on the Web and on the printed magazines, and I was lucky enough to play UO since very early the UO Beta Test Phase Two.
I've enjoy UO incredibly, even before I started playing it, and all the time I've played it has proven to be the most thrilling gaming experience for me.
However, it was missing something in the beta test, and it was missing something when it was first released. And it still has something missing even after the release of The Second Age. What is it? Ultima Fiction!
It is an Ultima game after all? or it isn't?
It is a very popular and intrincate graphical MUD, but there is very little (or none) of the incredible Ultima tradition in it.
Where is Lord British, Iolo, Shamino and the other characters?
Where are the Shadowlords, The Avatar and Mondain (except of the misleading introduction movie).
The sad answer is that they are not there.
Not even a dumb Non-player character answering back to any form of script, much less an OSI-paid employee giving life to the world's theme.
Is doing that too expensive or too complex? Are the players supposed to be doing this kind of things? (role playing game it is). Maybe.
But the only traces of ultima fiction, the towns, the map similarities, the castles (LBC, Blackthorn's place, the islands) etc, are just silent witnesses of what the game COULD BE.
So, this is why I am starting this Ultima Fiction for Ultima Online petition. On the time to come, I humbly ask for your comments, suggestions and support if you like the idea. I will make my best effort to make your voice being heard.
Thank you for your attention!

Thank you for inviting me here to read these pages. Know that I agree with the goals of this endeavor. To increase the depth of "Ultimazation" found within UO is a right and worthy cause. We, the development team, are still learning how best to incorporate the essence of Ultima into this world. Any advice and encouragement is appreciated.

As an additional note, Rainman from Stratics has also given us support.  He posted the following in the UO Fiction Petition Message Board:

Kudos to getting a response out of the big man himself. This is Rainman of UOSS. I'll post your e-mail to me today to the Q&E section of UOSS news as soon as a small bug with it is cleared up.

I'll also link to this site from S&S as soon as I can.

Thanks!
